Gail Albertson, MD
Gail Albertson, MD serves as Chief Operating Officer at the University Physicians, Inc., (UPI). She has spent 14 years in academic medicine in a variety of clinical, administrative and leadership positions. A graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1991 and the University of California San Diego in 1995, she returned and joined the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine faculty in 1995 to practice in General Internal Medicine. Ms. Albertson is past Secretary/Treasurer of UPI, and assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer at UPI in December 2006. Ms. Albertson continues her clinical practice in General Internal Medicine in addition to participating with University Hospital and Children's Hospital Colorado on numerous operational and leadership committees. Ms. Albertson is a member of the Academic Practice Plan Associate Directors. Ms. Albertson is interested in care management and medical home initiatives, along with quality reporting, clinical practice management and compliance issues.
Cody Belzley
Cody Belzley is the Vice President of Health Initiatives for the Colorado Children’s Campaign, the leading non-partisan, non-profit child advocacy organization in Colorado. She establishes and advances the organization’s health policy agenda. Prior to joining the Children’s Campaign, Cody served as Senior Health Policy Analyst for Colorado Governor, Bill Ritter Jr. She has also coordinated state and federal government affairs for a major safety net health system and has worked as a political and policy communications consultant. Cody was involved in the successful 2009 state legislation to provide health insurance to more than 100,000 uninsured Coloradans. She was also involved in the 2006 city ballot campaign to make preschool accessible for all Denver four-year-olds and the 2004 statewide tobacco tax initiative that is generating over $170 million annually for health programs in Colorado. Cody and her family live in northeast Denver and enjoy hiking and traveling.
Carl Clark, MD
Carl Clark, MD, is the CEO and medical/clinical director for the Mental Health Corp. of Denver (MHCD). He has served as CEO since 2001 and as medical/clinical director since 1991. In addition, he chairs the Colorado Psychiatric Society AIDS Education Committee and is a board member of the American Association of Physicians for Human Rights. He is also the assistant clinical professor at the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, University of Colorado and the supervisor for senior residents in the outpatient clinic, Colorado University. He also supervises community psychiatry residents at Colorado University and the group discussion teacher for a human behavior course at the University of Colorado. Clark is the recipient of the 1993 National Alliance for Mental Illness Exemplary Psychiatrist Award. He has also conducted numerous presentations and has been published extensively.
Anthony C. DeFurio
Anthony C. DeFurio is the Vice President of Finance and CFO for the University of Colorado Hospital Authority, which he joined in December 2006. From 2003 to 2006, Mr. DeFurio served as the Chief Financial Officer for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and from 2001 to 2003 he was Senior Vice President and CFO at the Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals in South Carolina. From 1999 to 2001 he was the CFO for Catholic Health Initiatives (Centura) in Denver and from 1989 to 1999 mapped an extensive career with Columbia/HCA and related entities. Anthony holds Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Health Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dave Downs, MD, FACP
Dave Downs, MD, FACP has practiced primary care internal medicine in Denver for 24 years and continues to practice half time at Kaiser Permanente. He was President of the Colorado Medical Society (CMS) and the founding co-chair of the CMS Physicians’ Congress for Health Care Reform. Dr. Downs was a member of the Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform and has worked to further practice redesign through the Improving Performance in Practice initiative at Health TeamWorks since 2006. He also served on the charter steering committees for the Center for Improving Value in Health Care and for the Colorado Regional Health information Organization. He is currently the Medical Director at Engaged Public, a strategic public policy firm.
Leonard J. Dryer, Jr.
Leonard J. Dryer, Jr., joined Children's Hospital Colorado in 1982. He served as staff accountant, supervisor of accounting and controller before becoming Chief Financial Officer/Senior Vice President of Finance in 1990. Career highlights include developing contracting strategies that increased managed care contracts by 40 percent; increasing cash reserves by $37 million over an eight-year period; developing educational programs for department heads; and serving on eight boards both within the hospital structure and in the community. He served as Colorado Access Board of Directors chair in 1997 and the board's treasurer in 1996.
David S. Myers
David S. Myers is the President and CEO of the Metro Community Provider Network (MCPN). He received his BA in journalism from Kent State University in Ohio and began his career first in Peace Corps in Guatemala where he was introduced to public health and then as a journalist in Mexico City. From there he attended the CSU masters program for nutrition and joined the Plan de Salud del Valle organization to work with migrant farmworkers and the rural poor. In 1993 he became CEO for the MCPN and has been in that position up until the present. As director of that organization, he oversees a network of 16 locations providing health services to the uninsured of suburban Denver. His system encompasses medical clinics, dental clinics and outreach/community service sites. In addition to his duties at MPCN, he is also on the boards of the Colorado Community Managed Care Network, the Colorado Community Health Network, the Denver Oncology Consortium and the National HealthCare for the Homeless Council.
John Santistevan
John Santistevan is currently the Director of Accounting and Finance with Salud Family Health Centers and has served in that capacity for fifteen years. Prior to joining Salud Family Health Centers, Santistevan was with three public accounting firms for eight years, Price Waterhouse, Bondi and Company and Clifton and Gunderson.
Santistevan has served in several board positions at the community health centers primary care association, Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN). Santistevan is currently the chair of the board of CCHN and has served as the chair elect, been the treasurer for two terms and served on the board for two terms as the chair of the fiscal section of CCHN. Santistevan has also chaired the Finance Committee of the Colorado Community Managed Care Network for ten years. Santistevan has served on the following committees for the National Association of Community Health Centers: Finance, Marketing and Americorp Steering committee and the subcommittee on Health Care Finance, as well as, several adhoc committees. In 2010 Santistevan was awarded the Jeffery T. Latman Leadership in Healthcare Finance by the National Association of Community Health Centers.
Larry Wolk, MD, MSPH
Larry Wolk, MD, MSPH is the Founder and Executive Director for The Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics. Dr. Wolk established Rocky Mountain Youth in 1996, the first non-profit organization of its kind in the country. The program is designed to provide medical and nursing services to uninsured and at-risk children and teenagers throughout Colorado. His work with Rocky Mountain Youth has been recognized by the American Hospital Association as one (1) of four (4) model programs in the country. Dr. Wolk has also served as President and Chief Operations Officer for Correctional Healthcare Companies (CHC), Chief Medical Officer for HMS Healthcare, Senior Medical Director of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Colorado, Prudential Healthcare of Colorado and CIGNA HealthCare; in addition he started and directed the outpatient pediatric clinic at the Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center.
