Embracing the True Spirit of the Holiday Season
The holiday season is a time of joy, reflection, and togetherness. For many, it’s a season filled with family gatherings, festive celebrations, and the warmth of giving. But it’s also a powerful reminder of the importance of extending kindness to others. Acts of generosity, whether through volunteering or financial support, have the potential to create a ripple effect of positive change in our communities.
However, the holidays aren’t joyous for everyone. For some, this time of year brings feelings of loneliness or hardship. People who have lost loved ones, are struggling to provide for their families, or carry difficult memories may find the season challenging. This awareness inspires me to give back and offer time, resources, and hope.
This year, I had the privilege of volunteering with the Epworth Foundation’s Denver Feed-A-Thon Thanksgiving Drive (in honor of Daddy Bruce Randolph), which provides meals to those in need across the Denver metro area. The Foundation served more than 7,500 people during Thanksgiving, and it was humbling to contribute to this incredible cause. Not only did I volunteer, but my family joined me as well. For us, this tradition runs deep; since my son was three years old, we’ve delivered meals during both Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s my way of teaching him the true spirit of the season and how fortunate we are.

As a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Aurora Chapter member, service is at the heart of everything I do. Our chapter is partnering with a local elementary school this holiday season to provide gifts for 500 students. Seeing the joy that a simple gift can bring to a child is a reminder of how small acts of kindness can brighten someone’s day. If you can make one child smile this season, why not take the opportunity?
Ways You Can Make a Difference This Holiday Season:
- Adopt a family in need and help them celebrate the holidays.
- Volunteer at a local organization that provides meals to those in need.
- Write a thoughtful note to someone in an assisted living facility.
- Deliver a sweet treat to a neighbor or shovel snow for someone who might need help.
- Make a financial contribution to a local nonprofit organization.
As the season unfolds, I encourage you to embrace the true meaning of giving. Your efforts — big or small — can make a world of difference. Let’s carry this spirit of generosity into the new year and beyond.
