Special Benefits for Children and Youth: EPSDT

Health First Colorado covers all medically necessary care for members who are 20 years old or younger through the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit. This benefit ensures that they get the right preventive, dental, vision, hearing, developmental, mental health, and specialty services at no cost, even if it’s not a covered service or there are service limits for adults. If your child needs a service and you are not sure it is covered, always ask. EPSDT might cover it.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Benefits

You have coverage as soon as you are pregnant until 12 months after your pregnancy ends. You must tell Health First Colorado that you are pregnant to get this coverage, even if your doctor already knows. Use PEAK or the Health First Colorado app to tell us if you’re pregnant. Or call Health First Colorado at 800-221-3943 (State Relay 711).

Prenatal benefits include doctor visits, mental health care, substance use treatment and recovery, and all medically necessary tests and screenings. Services from midwives and doulas are covered, too. After pregnancy, you get all the postpartum care you need, including family planning. Pregnant members are included in the EPSDT benefit. If you are pregnant and you need a service, always ask. EPSDT might cover it.

Our care coordinators offer extra support during and after your pregnancy. A care coordinator can help if you have preexisting physical or mental health needs, your pregnancy is high-risk, or you want support with substance use recovery. Care coordinators can also help you find community resources, like food and housing. Call us at 866-833-5717 (TTY: 888-803-4494) to request a care coordinator.
