Fathers, Take Care of Yourselves
Father’s Day is a time for families to come together enjoy the outdoors, barbecue, or my personal favorite, sitting next to the pool watching my kids splash around all while celebrating the amazing dads in our lives.
While you reflect on what your Father’s Day looked like last year, hopefully this year may have a bit more normalcy than last. As a father, I am always looking to protect my family, and the global pandemic has added many complexities to making this a reality. As I sit here with two small children (three-year-old son and six-month-old daughter) who are unvaccinated, I question how plausible it is to protect my family.
My family has taken all the necessary precautions: wearing our masks, washing our hands, keeping socially distant, and thanks to all the amazing scientists, receiving my vaccination. As we can only control so many aspects of our lives, it is important to take a moment this Father’s Day and think about other ways you can protect your family. Men’s health is extremely important and one that many fathers put on the back burner for a variety of reasons. As Colorado and the rest of the United States begins to open up after the past year, it is important to get into your primary care physician to receive your annual wellness visit, and it’s also extremely safe. Having this visit can put not only your mind at ease but also your families, who I know want you to be the healthiest dad you can be. We as fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers are here to show our future generations what it means to be a dad and that means taking care of ourselves both physically and mentally. I wish you an amazing Father’s Day and hope you get to spend it what brings you joy in life.
