Colorado Access Hires Robert King as its First Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

King Will Build on Current DEI Energy and Momentum, Allowing Colorado Access to Better Deliver on its Mission and Serve the Underserved

DENVER – June 7, 2021 – Colorado Access announces the appointment of Robert “Bobby” King as its vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). In this newly created position, King will work directly with Colorado Access President and CEO Marshall Thomas, MD, and be responsible for strategic leadership, direction and accountability for internal and external DEI initiatives.

Most recently, King was the senior vice president and chief human resource officer for the YMCA of Metro Denver and served as the director of diversity, equity and inclusion for Kaiser Permanente’s Colorado Region. King has executive leadership experience in human resource operations; diversity, equity and inclusion; cultural competency; and training and organization development.

In his first 90 days, King will immerse himself in the company’s vision, mission, strategy and goals, ensuring that its DEI strategy is integrated and aligned with existing work. He will work to understand the current organizational state, culture and environment; evaluate readiness for change, current systems and measures; and optimize the existing DEI committee, governance and communication strategy.

“I have been afforded the opportunity to lead one of the most crucial imperatives of our time,” said King during an introductory company town hall meeting. “Never before in the history of our country have we been collectively faced with five generations in the workplace, a social reawakening, climate change and a health care pandemic all at the same time. These factors are key influencers regarding the work of diversity, equity and inclusion.”

King continued by stating that the future of Colorado Access hinges on its ability to do this important work in an excellent way and that “the elevated attention to and investment in this role speaks volumes to the organization’s commitment.”

“We have been working to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion into our mission, core values and everything that we do,” said Thomas. “We want a workplace where every person can be their authentic self and be proud of their individuality. We also know that more intentional movement in this direction will make us a better organization and help us deliver on our mission.”
