Building a Relationship with Your Primary Care Provider

Establishing a strong and lasting relationship with your primary care provider (PCP) is an investment in your long-term health. Although you might prefer to visit urgent care for medical assistance, you lose the advantage of having a health care provider who intimately knows you and your medical history. The familiarity, trust and personalized care that come with having a consistent PCP has the potential to positively impact your health care journey.

Regularly seeing the same PCP helps develop an ongoing relationship between you and your doctor. This relationship can also make you feel more comfortable and personable around your doctor, rather than feeling like visiting the doctor is a chore or uncomfortable task.

With consistent care, your PCP can have a more comprehensive understanding of your medical history, which helps them provide personalized care tailored to your health needs. Your PCP can help track and monitor changes to your health and recommend appropriate preventive measures and screenings. A proactive approach to your health can lead to early detection of potential health issues and result in better health outcomes.

Colorado Access can help you find a primary care provider! Call them at 800-511-5010 or visit coaccess.com and click on the “Find a Provider” button at the top right corner of the homepage.

It’s important to stay covered under your health care plan so you can continue to see your PCP. Make sure that when you receive your Medicaid renewal packet, fill it out and return it promptly. You can take steps now to make sure you get the information you need to continue your health care coverage; learn more here.
