Statement on Energy and Commerce Committee Vote to Advance Health Portion of Federal Budget Reconciliation Package

Aurora, CO – Annie Lee, president and CEO of Colorado Access, released the following statement after the Energy and Commerce Committee voted to cut Medicaid funding by advancing the health portion of the federal budget reconciliation package:

“Access to health care and the wellbeing of individuals, communities, and our economy are now in jeopardy following extreme Medicaid cuts voted on today by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. From work requirements to dismantling coverage for immigrants, this package threatens the coverage that over a million Coloradans rely on – and ignores clear data and direct testimony from communities whose lives are at stake.

With more than three decades of Medicaid experience in Colorado communities, we know firsthand the real impacts these cuts and new requirements will have. The new requirements will result in fewer people working because they will not have coverage for their health care needs, and even still-eligible members will not receive coverage because of the administrative burden of the requirements. We continue to urge Congress to preserve health care for Coloradans.”
