Proudly Celebrating 30 Years of Serving Coloradans
This year, Colorado Access proudly celebrates 30 years of serving Coloradans. What started as a local effort to support Colorado’s Medicaid members has grown into a broader mission to advance health equity and ensure that everyone we serve, regardless of income, background, or ZIP code, can access the care they need to live healthier lives. Over three decades, our partnerships have grown, our programs have expanded, and our community roots have deepened. But our purpose remains constant: to remove barriers, promote equity, and deliver care that truly makes a difference.
At the heart of Colorado Access is a belief that health care should be proactive, not reactive. We work to prevent health crises before they happen because early care doesn’t just lead to better outcomes for individuals; it strengthens entire communities and helps build a more sustainable health care system for everyone.
Since the beginning, Colorado Access has focused on finding and eliminating the many obstacles that prevent people from accessing care. Whether it’s transportation challenges, financial concerns, language barriers, or gaps in mental health support, we’ve designed programs that meet people where they are. For families navigating busy urban communities, children needing behavioral health screenings, and older adults managing complex chronic conditions, our work has always been about delivering the right care at the right time and in the right way.
Innovation has played a major role in how we serve our members. We’ve pioneered the use of telehealth, invested in school-based partnerships, and expanded behavioral health services across underserved areas. Collaborating closely with community organizations, primary care providers, and behavioral health teams, we’ve worked to build a more connected, responsive, and compassionate system of care. Early intervention and prevention remain at the heart of our approach at every step, because we know that when care arrives early, it can change lives.
Health equity isn’t just something we talk about; it is part of who we are. True equity means recognizing and addressing the unique needs of communities that have long faced systemic barriers to care. We actively listen to the voices of our members, shape services that reflect cultural understanding, and strive to create an environment where every individual feels seen, respected, and supported.
Of course, the true measure of our work isn’t found in spreadsheets; it is found in the lives we’ve touched. It’s in the story of a parent who finally finds support for their child’s anxiety. A teenager who connects with a counselor and starts to believe in a brighter future. An older adult who avoids a hospital stay because preventive care caught a warning sign early. These are the moments that define our impact and remind us why this work matters. That’s why I feel so fortunate to be part of an organization where success is not only defined by dollars but by the people we serve, the trust we build with our members, and the real differences we help create in people’s lives every day.
As we mark 30 years of service, we remain deeply grateful for the trust placed in us and firmly committed to advancing health equity, expanding access, and meeting the evolving needs of the communities we serve. For 30 years, Colorado Access has been more than a health plan. We have been a partner in prevention, a reliable source of support during challenging times, and a trusted voice advocating for better health for all Coloradans. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited about where we’re going. Here’s to the next 30 years of putting people first!
